Sep 2015:

The front gate is faulting regularly through summer which we believe is caused by the reticulation system causing an electrical fault which leads to the battery draining and the gate ceasing operation.

We have had ABA Automatic gates and our electrical contractor inspect the gate and circuits and they have found no issues.

We believe the issue may be with the underground wiring and have authorised ABA to go on-site with an electrician to perform a thorough investigation.

This issue has been resolved and the gate has not failed since repairs have were made.

Jeff attended site and removed both operators. Inspection revealed multiple cable joins close to the ground to single insulated 240v cabling. Assisted electrician to pull new double insulated cable between junction box on building and first operator and also between both operators.

This work was complicated because the existing conduit was bending sharply in and around reticulation plumbing. There was water in both conduits which was removed as best as possible. Replacement cables installed with extended conduit where possible or sealed where not possible to extend. Recommissioned both operators.

Test operation ok. Gates left in working order. Did not notice any breaks or damage to removed cabling - no positive fault identified rather than single insulated cable with cable joins close to the ground. With the cable replacement we are quite confident that the 240V power will not be the cause of any future earth leakage tripping. If earth leakage problems persist the fault can only be with one or other of the chargers at each operator.
